Introducing Firela

Most financial apps have a dirty secret: your history lives in their database. Even where export exists, it gives you CSV rows — not a ledger that outlives the app. And inspecting what the app actually does with your data is rarely possible. Firela is a beancount lifetime ledger — a ledger for life.

Why We Built This

We believe your financial data is among your most personal information. It reveals:
  • Where you shop and what you buy
  • How much you earn and save
  • Your habits, goals, and anxieties
This data shouldn’t be held in a format that serves the platform more than it serves you.

The Firela Approach

AGPL Code

The parser and sanitizer libraries are public under AGPL-3.0, in the firela-app repo. Audit them yourself.

Zero-Tracking Vault

The ledger is read and written through your tokens — the cloud sees the books, never you.

Beancount

Plain text accounting. Human-readable, version-controllable.

Where the Project Stands

  • billclaw, the collector — deployable now to Cloudflare Workers’ free tier (quickstart)
  • The mobile app — in active development (not yet on app stores); its parser and sanitizer libraries are public today
  • The ledger — complete Beancount semantics, plain text, yours for life

Get Involved

The public repos are AGPL-3.0, and the parser pipeline is community-driven — new institution parsers arrive as sanitized contributions from users.
